This fact about RS makes me a little crazy. So, missing the English translation (or any native language), while good in theory, is a substantial detriment, a large learning obstacle, in practice. The interesting thing about that, is the analytical mindset will flourish more on a software program. What's happening instead, by leaving out the accurate word or phrase translation, a road block to learning is actually created, especially for the more analytically minded student or learner. As infants, our learning was organic, and motivated by relationships and needs. The thing is, unhappily, learning from a computer screen is not natural nor is it immersion. The purpose of their design is to mimic language immersion, natural language learning, and is good in theory. RS does NOT give you the exact English translation for your new word. As you conquer the words, more are added and longer sentences (sometimes silly sentences) are created for the learner to click a corresponding picture. How does it work? The software program shows the learner photo cues (not cartoons) and the target language or phrase both spoken and written to help you absorb the new words. I mean, their marketing department is top notch! The motivation was there (their job) and the ability to sit and study was simply part of the requirement. The initial learners on RS had huge blocks of time to dedicate to clicking and repeating. Thus, for that specific purpose, teaching adults who are dedicated to mastering a language in a short amount of time, I think it's effective. The prime usage and design was for men over the age of 20 who would dedicate 8 hours or more daily to the program. Rosetta Stone Spanish was developed for the United States Military. I'm a bilingual, homeschooling, Spanish teaching, mom of five.Īll joking aside, in my years of teaching Spanish, since 1999, plus a previous 6 years of studying, learning, and living it, I have met zero people who said that the software program Rosetta Stone worked well for their family. And here's my necessary disclaimer: These are my opinions. I love helping families find the best method for them to learn Spanish. Although student seems to be doing well on Rosetta, when I stopped to quiz her on vocabulary and verbs she was reading along to- she did not know the vocabulary. This week we are taking a break from the online Rosetta Stone program and reviewing words and verb conjugation. If you are considering Rosetta, you might want to try a free version at a local library before you invest your money. That’s my humble opinion, and I’ve spoken to a few other moms who feel the same way. I’d like to try Mango, but not willing to put in another investment like I did with Rosetta. It was different and fascinating, but I think it might be best for someone who wants to quickly learn a language in order to travel. I did see Mango at the FPEA home school convention. She had to interact, talk, have conversations and write in Spanish – which is not part of Rosetta. I switched to an online interactive class through flvs and it was better than expected. Rosetta seems fine if you casually want to learn a language or if you are going to another country but I didn’t feel it was right for a spanish class. It seems easy to go through the lessons, but when I would quiz my daughter, she didn’t know a lot. 2014/ September update: I switched out of Rosetta stone mid year. It's funny there's a lot of whining about melee classes being weak and I just don't see it (I'm only halfway through nightmare) - I'm playing a monk with my wife's wizard and the monk is just as ridiculously overpowered as the barbarian (as in run to the biggest concentration of mobs and make them explode). I stood toe to toe most of the fight using the first passive ability and two other survival related abilities. I killed Diablo first attempt, no AH bought gear (I hate the AH, think it ruins the game, and haven't bought a single item from it). The only tangible measure of progress is "phatter lewt" at this point.īarbarian is stupidly powerful, at least in normal. In Diablo III, not only do your levels not increase your survivability or killing power in any way (besides new skill runes), by the time you feel like you aren't strong enough to defeat an encounter you'll most likely have few or even no more levels left to gain. If my character was getting decimated in Act IV of Nightmare, I could go back and gain a few levels and maybe get some new items in the process. As such, leveling up doesn't do much other than allow equip items with better stats.īecause items in Diablo II gave, comparatively, closer benefits to gaining another level than those in Diablo III, I felt like I was making progress with either a level up or a nice item drop. A _single_ item can give me more of a stat than I gain from leveling all the way from 1 to 60. I don't know about other characters, but I believe my Monk is getting 2 vitality per level (and there are 60 levels). In Diablo III, a high-level item is giving you 200+ vitality. This high level item was roughly equivalent to only 4 character levels (of which you got 99). Your character got 5 stat points per level which you could, if you wanted, put all into vitality. For instance, in Diablo II a high level item would give +20 vitality. Another thing, related but not frequently discussed, is the change in how important gear is vs. 11/8/2022 0 Comments World of kaneva yellow titleThis product does not offer real money gambling or an opportunity to win real money or prizes.
